The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg
Adult Resource & Education Center (REC)
After an extensive planning process, the Board of Directors of Randolph County Senior Adults Association, Inc. along with a dedicated group of community leaders have sucessfully completed acheived the $3 million goal of the Expanding Opportunities for Active Living campaign. The new Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Adult REC will further our mission “To empower adults age 50 and over in Randolph County toward a life of personal independence, healthy aging, social connection and life-long learning.” The funds raised through the campaign have been used to move the existing Asheboro Senior Center to an expanded, 31,000 + square foot multi-purpose Resource & Education Center.  The community facility where older adults come together for services and activities that reflect their skill interests and diverse needs.

See our list of exciting classes and events which will continue to grow and expand through the coming months.
•   Geographically central to the county, the new center will be conveniently located within Asheboro’s vibrant downtown, close to the Sunset Theatre, the local farmer’s market, restaurants and shops.

•  Increase services for Meals On Wheels, congregate lunch, transportation and Senior Center programs.

•  Seniors are currently on the waiting list to receive Meals On Wheels, the limited space and parking at our current facility limits the expansion of this vital program.

•   Drawing folks throughout the community to enjoy activities that will include a large dance floor, offering a variety of dance classes, an exercise room where Yoga and Tai Chi may be taught, classrooms including one that allows kitchen demonstrations, a computer lab, and space for social activities such as ping pong and billiards.

•   The new building’s location provides immediate access to the established downtown walking trail as well as ample parking for program participants and volunteers.  This fresh, current facility will serve as an example of the modern day Senior Center.
The new facility will not only allow RCSAA to improve the quality of existing services and programming; but will enable Senior Adults to expand its ability to engage all of Randolph County’s seniors.  It is RCSAA’s intent to extend programs to include all of Randolph County’s adults aged 50 and over.  This population will benefit as a result of expanded services and evening and weekend hours.  As baby boomers transition to “senior” status, RCSAA will involve this new generation of senior adults, redefining the role and nature of seniors in our community. Once a part of the RCSAA family - should one’s situation require greater levels of service they will already be comfortable and familiar with the organization best suited to meet their needs.
